Embassy Legalization
We assist clients with embassy (consular) legalization of Dutch documents for countries that are
not part of the Hague Apostille Convention. This often involves several steps, such as notarisation,
legalisation by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and finally legalisation at the relevant embassy or consulate.
Our team coordinates the entire chain, submits your documents to the relevant authorities and embassies, and keeps you
informed throughout the process.
When is embassy legalization required?
Embassy legalization is typically required when:
• The destination country is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention
• The receiving authority specifically asks for “full consular / embassy legalization”
• Certain embassies require documents to be notarised and translated before legalization

• Civil status documents (birth, marriage, divorce, etc.)
• Notarial deeds, powers of attorney and company documents
• Sworn translations (where required by the embassy)
• Educational and professional documents

How the embassy legalization process works

1You send us a scan of your document and specify the destination country and the authority that will receive the document.

2We confirm the exact legalization chain required (notarisation → Ministry of Foreign Affairs → Embassy) and whether sworn translation is needed.

3If necessary, we first arrange notarisation and/or sworn translation so that the document meets the embassy’s formal requirements.

4We submit the document to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (if required) and then to the relevant embassy or consulate for legalization, following their specific procedures and appointment systems.

5Once legalized, the documents are returned to you. If requested, we can arrange international courier delivery.
Apostille or embassy legalization?
For Hague Convention countries, an apostille is usually sufficient and faster.
For non-Hague countries, full embassy legalization is required.
